Lake Irving in Beltrami County, Minnesota

This lake has 8 Layers or 15 Layers for HD Version

Lake Irving is a 661-acre natural lake on the Mississippi River system located within the city of Bemidji in southern Beltrami County, featuring an average depth of 10 feet with a maximum depth of 19 feet and five miles of scenic shoreline. Named after Washington Irving, the American author, the lake is easily accessible from Lake Bemidji via the Mississippi River, though boaters should exercise caution while navigating the river channel due to current bridge structures and old railroad pilings. A 2022 fish survey revealed healthy populations of Walleye averaging 16 inches with sizes ranging from 7 to 25 inches, along with excellent fishing for Northern Pike, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Muskellunge, and Largemouth Bass. The Walleye population is sustained through upstream and downstream fish movement from connected lakes and natural reproduction, with 11 year classes captured. Public boat launch access is available on the north end adjacent to the city's facilities, making the lake ideal for fishing, boating, water sports, and kayaking year-round.

Located within the charming city of Bemidji, known as the First City on the Mississippi River and surrounded by over 400 lakes within a 25-mile radius, Lake Irving offers convenient access to exceptional attractions and outdoor recreation. Visitors can explore the iconic 18-foot Paul Bunyan and 10-foot Babe the Blue Ox statues at Paul Bunyan Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1937, the Headwaters Science Center with interactive exhibits and live animal displays, and the Watermark Art Center featuring indigenous and regional artwork. The surrounding area provides access to Lake Bemidji State Park just 15 minutes from downtown, Itasca State Park and the Headwaters of the Mississippi less than an hour away, over 500 snowmobile trails, 160 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, and the Bemidji Sculpture Walk featuring conversation-sparking artworks throughout downtown. The historic Beltrami County History Center, Paul Bunyan Playhouse summer theater, and numerous local restaurants, breweries, and shops create a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences.

This beautifully handcrafted laser-cut wooden topographical map of Lake Irving would make a stunning addition to your Bemidji-area home, cabin, or office, celebrating your connection to this historic Minnesota waterway. The artisan design features a natural wood top layer that elegantly frames the lake's distinctive shape along the Mississippi River and five miles of detailed shoreline, while the water depths are represented through a beautiful gradient flowing from light blue in the shallow 10-foot average areas to deeper blue at the 19-foot maximum depth. Every contour, bay, and river connection is precisely laser-etched into the multi-layered wood construction, creating a three-dimensional work of art that captures the character and heritage of this beloved Bemidji fishing destination connected to America's most famous river.
