Mississippi River Pool 6 is an extensive 22,000-acre navigation pool on the Upper Mississippi River, stretching from Lock and Dam 6 near Trempealeau, Wisconsin, upstream toward Winona, Minnesota. Formed as part of the 9-foot navigation channel project, this immense aquatic resource spans the border between Trempealeau County, WI, and Winona County, MN. While the main navigation channel maintains a depth of at least 9 feet for commercial traffic, the pool encompasses a vast complex of diverse habitats, including deep water, shallow backwater lakes, and extensive wetlands, all set against a backdrop of dramatic limestone bluffs.
